Me And My Sax

Though I don’t know how to articulate it to those around me verbally, my hope is that the passion, warmth, and joy I feel enveloping my heart are communicated through my saxophone.

My aim is to be true in my playing, and that the inexpressible would be given sound. Whether joy, sorrow, long suffering, or compassion, I want to empathize with those around me in a way that I believe only music can touch.

I am an alto player with baritone experience but no baritone funds, so no baritone. That will come.

People who continue to inspire me include: Sonny Rollins, Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, Winton Marsalis, Weird Al Yankovich, They Might Be Giants, The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Sade, Jadon Lavik. To list a few.

Jesus has been a part of my life since I was five, and I continue to offer myself as a soloist or ensemble player to pronounce what he's done for me.

I love to worship the Lord by giving back a portion of the gifts he has given me, by turning them into praise in His name.  Being an instument of Gods hand is who I want to be.  Playing music is how I truly feel connected with other believers from whatever kind of culture they belong to.

I started playing in the school band program and made it through two years at Western Illinois University. This taught me technique, but what I really enjoyed were the extra curricular bands that encouraged the exploration of the music. Moving in and out of Jazz and Rock through the years, I met up with Sapphire in 1997 and we’ve been exploring music together since.

In 2003 I met David Chao and began a jam session, which snowballed into the Central Time Jazz Collective.  I play with David more sporadically now, but the Jazz gigs still go on.  There is such a wide range of talent and musical compositions, they are totally worth a night out.  Check it out on www.CentralTime.org.
Here's a sample of what I've done with the ensembles I've worked with.

Here are some full length cuts of what I've done on Sunday mornings.
