Recording and Production
for Common Folks
Cost Breakout

The first thing to do to record, is to make sure I know what you want to do, so when you get here, we are ready to record!  The cost for recording time:
$25 per hour.

You may want to stop there, and that is fine.  I will put the recorded material on a usb drive you provide or a cd that you can take home with you.  If, however, you would like some editing done, like taking out lip smacking, burping, coughing, bad spots, etc.... I charge:
$25 per hour.
This would also include more things like mixing sounds, compressing instruments, and generally putting the instruction, song, or cd together so it sounds as good as I can possibly make it.  I can get all material on a usb drive you provide, but I would only be able to provide the finished product on a cd as files tend to get very large in this process.  So if you want everything, come prepared with a drive that has at least 5 gigs.  (Just in case)

I am no graphic artist, but I do put pictures together and with your help can make a nice album piece.  It is helpful to get art or pictures from you and once I have it basically put together, finish it up with you.  So, if you would like some graphic work done for an album cover, my cost is:
$30 per hour.

Many cd's I record are instructional and some artists prefer a music background.  It so happens my wife and I are professional musicians and can provide music for such a case and the cost is:
$150 per hour of recorded material.

After all that, you may want me to provide finished cds, with the artwork, in a jewel case, ready for sale.  I can do that, but there are 3 big things you should be aware of.  1 -- small scale duplication is expensive compared with bulk duplication.  If you are looking to get more than 100 cds out, I would highly recommend finding a professional duplication place and I can work with them to get them what they need.  Once they are set up, it's easy to just get more in the future.  2 -- I do not provide UPC symbols, but if you get me one, I can print it.  This may or may not be a big deal, it just depends what you're planning to do with the recording.  3 -- I do not have the ability at this time to shrink wrap.  So....what you would get is a finished cd with a one page cover art, art on the cd, art on the back, all contained in a nice jewel case.  I can make as many as you want for a price of:
$3.30 per cd.

All costs are rounded in 15 minute segments and there is a minimum charge of $25.

At this time CommonFolkStudios does not support itself.  Time to record must be evenings and weekends.  Thank you for understanding.
